214/365 Captured Moments Christmas Orange #102

Christmas Orange
8" x 8" Oil on Canvas Board

I remember when there was only one kind of Christmas Orange. It came in a wooden crate which had to be pried open with a hammer.  They were only available at Christmas, and I remember how excited we were when the first box of the season entered the house.

211/365 Captured Moments - Orange Lanterns

Loving the colors of fall!

It's time to take a break from painting, as I sip on a fresh hot cup of coffee I watch the leaves outside my windows spiral and float gracefully to the ground.

It won't be long before the trees are bare again but for now I will enjoy them, all the more for knowing that I do not have to rake them up.

If you would like to see what I am painting today check out my Works In Progress

210/365 Captured Moments - A Girl And Her Pony

One of the best parts of going out and taking photographs are the people I get to meet on my travels. This little girl looked so tiny surrounded by thousands of pounds of horse flesh and two long horned bulls.  We had a nice long chat about horses, mean bulls, and life in general.

209/364 Captured Moments - A Quiet Morning on the River

I gravitate to the same places over and over and each time a different scene awaits me.  Today it was the beautiful blues and greens of the normally grey waters of the river that greeted me.

207/365 Captured Moments - Dried Hydrangeas

I've never tried drying hydrangeas but this year I decided to give it a go since I had lots of blooms on my shrubs.  This is one batch, I also have a nice full basket by my fireplace. In the winter when all the color is stripped from the gardens I will still be able to enjoy their beauty.

205/365 Captured Moments - Fort Langley Taken Over by Zombies!!!!

Today at approximately 3:00 PM the streets of Fort Langley were taken over by frightful zombies.  Rumors are that the Fort Langley Studio was responsible for the rising up of the zombies.

204/365 Captured Moments - The Illusion

This is such a cool shot, I didn't use any special equipment just a regular lens, some fog and reflected light.  At first glance it almost looks like a movie screen. The reality is that it is just a  large white warehouse reflecting onto the water.

203/365 Captured Moments - Centered

In the woods away from the noise I find myself once again.

201/365 Captured Moments Aldor Acres Pumpkin Patch

The heavy fog early this morning in the pumpkin patch gave it a ghostly feel.  Along with the stalks of corn lurking about looking like creepy monsters, and the crows deep in the fog cawing out a warning it was very eerie.

200/365 Captured Moments Painting - Searching

Early spring a touch of frost still lingers, my fingers ache from the cold as I move amongst the trees, searching, always searching.

199/365 Captured Moments - Oil Painting Study - Autumn's Last Fling

Goodness what a learning curve using oils is, as well as messy I was wearing almost as much on me as I had put on the painting.  I love how you can get soft beautiful blends, but dislike the slow drying time.  Very happy with my first attempt.

197/365 Captured Moments - Hues of Autumn

I'm so excited to see the leaves changing color, I love the crispness in the morning air so fresh and clean then as the day progresses the sun shines bringing on some fall warmth. This is the weather I would like to have year round.

I found some old dried leaves and decided to paint designs on them, they were a bit delicate and finicky to paint, but still fun.

The beauty of the poppy continues long after the last petal has fallen leaving behind a orb of  pale green topped with a crown of gold.

191/365 Captured Moments - Acrylic Painting - Standoff

Having fun with color!

Yesterday after working on this piece I came across the following quote.

"Unless you do something beyond what you have already mastered you will never grow."  Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Which leads me to admitting that I  fear color!  Yes that's one of my guilty secrets, (we won't get into the others) I can match color which isn't a problem when I work on realistic paintings, but when it comes to changing color I have issues, this goes so far back that I can clearly remember my older sister always telling me my clothes were clashing.
That being said I have decided to work on color for a bit with this being my first attempt at moving out of my comfort zone.

190/365 Captured Moments - Ducks in Flight Abstract

Ducks in flight with a blurred background is one of those images I have debated over, I love the abstracted feel of the background, the horizontal lines and the different layers of color but would have liked to have had a closer and clearer view of the ducks.  Is it a good shot or a bad shot, I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder.

189/365 Captured Moments - It's Messy

It's a mess but the vibrancy of the colors has won me over.

The glow around the heads of the cone-flowers has always reminded me of an Angel's halo, they look so bright and alive as they stand tall in the flower beds and especially spectacular with the back drop of black eyed susan's.
